Blackboard Updates: May 2026

Welcome to the fifth edition of the Blackboard 2026 Update Newsletter! In this May edition, we’re highlighting the changes introduced in version 4000.15, designed to enhance the way we teach and learn in the digital environment.

You can now view inherited release conditions from a learning module or folder directly in the release conditions panel for each item.

The course selector now includes a search box that allows users to quickly find and open any course they have access to, directly from the course they are currently in, without having to return to the main page.

[3]  Groups: New group management experience

Group management has been completely redesigned with a cleaner layout and more intuitive controls. The updated interface displays more information in less space, making it easier to manage groups and members without excessive scrolling.

Now, everything begins by choosing how you want to structure the groups before managing individual members. The options include:

  • Manual Assignment
  • Automatic Assignment
  • Self-Enrollment

Manual Assignment

To get started, create the groups and assign members by clicking the plus sign (+). Alternatively, once the groups have been created, you can assign students listed on the left to the appropriate groups.

Automatic Assignment

You can automatically assign students to groups by specifying the number of members per group. Blackboard creates the required number of groups and randomly assigns students in a single step, reducing setup time for large courses.

Self-Enrollment

Setting up self-enrollment groups is the first step.
